A writing partner is a conversation with a point of view. Each one reads your saved document and notes before replying, and stays on the same partner version for the whole conversation.

Meet the partners
| Partner | Best for | Try asking |
|---|---|---|
| The Story Editor | Structure and honest questions | Where does my second act lose momentum? |
| The Tension Architect | Suspense and dramatic irony | What should the audience know that Mara doesn't? |
| The Character Observer | Intimate drama and emotional contradictions | Why would Mara stay when everyone tells her to leave? |
| The Dialogue Partner | Voices, subtext and rhythm | Make the harbourmaster's warning sound like small talk. |
| The Puzzle Builder | Nonlinear time and planted clues | Where can I plant the first hint that the calls are real? |
| The World Dreamer | Surreal worlds with consistent emotional logic | What rules does the radio follow when it reaches the past? |
Start a conversation
- From Chats & partners: choose a partner and Start a conversation.
- From a document: use the partner panel beside it. Documents made with an AI Writer tool come with a linked conversation already.
- Each partner offers starter prompts, such as Challenge the central idea, if you don't know where to begin.
What the partner knows
| Context | What's included |
|---|---|
| Your messages | The 20 most recent |
| The linked document | The latest saved version: the whole document or one section you choose |
| Attached files | Up to three ready source files per reply |
| Earlier story notes | Notes you write, sent with every reply (up to 12,000 characters) |
- Weak
- Is this good?
- Strong
- The first call from the Saint Brigid lands at minute 12 of my outline. Is that too late, and what could happen before it to keep the first ten minutes tense?
Specific questions about a specific part of the story get specific answers. When you only want feedback on one part, point the partner at that section instead of the whole document.
Earlier story notes
Open Context & conversation options and write the facts the partner should never forget. They're sent with every reply, even after the conversation has grown past the last 20 messages.
Mara Quinn, 47. Father lost on the Saint Brigid in 1994. The station closes on Friday. The calls only come between 2 and 3 a.m. Tone: slow-burn, no jump scares.
Branch, save and stop
- Branch conversation copies the 20 most recent messages into a new conversation, optionally with a different partner. Ask The Tension Architect what The Story Editor missed.
- Save latest reply as document turns a reply you like into a Library document.
- Stop a reply at any time. You pay only for the text written before you stopped.
What a reply costs
Replies start at 2 credits, and you pay for what the AI actually uses. A quick question about a short document costs close to the minimum. A detailed question with a long document and attached files costs more, because the partner reads all of it.
Limits
- Messages up to 16,000 characters. Press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) to send.
- One reply at a time per conversation.
- Up to 100 attached files per conversation; start a new conversation to add more.
- The screen shows the latest 100 messages; all of them are kept.
- Removing an attached file resets the earlier context, so the partner no longer relies on it.
