Projects

Take one story from the first idea to the screenplay and the film, with notes that save as you type.

A project follows one story through six stages: shape your idea, meet your characters, build the story, write your scenes, read and refine, and plan the film. Take them in any order and come back to any of them.

Start a project

  1. Open Projects in the sidebar.
  2. Choose where you're startingI have an idea if you know the beginning, or Help me find an idea for a few story sparks to make your own.
  3. Fill in what you knowA working title, the genre, the format (short film, feature or TV pilot) and your idea. All of it can change later.
  4. Choose Create my story.

The stages

StageWhat you do there
Shape your ideaYour premise and logline, and the working title.
Meet your charactersNotes on who wants what, and who stands in the way.
Build the storyYour outline: the turns of the beginning, middle and end.
Write your scenesStart the project's screenplay in the screenplay editor, or link one you've begun.
Read & refineRevision notes, and a formatting check of the linked screenplay.
Plan the filmYour screenplay's scenes as starting points for shots, and a linked storyboard to take into the Film Studio.

Each stage suggests AI Writer tools and a Director Avatar. A tool opened from a project starts with the project's genre and idea filled in; what it writes is saved to your Library like any other result.

Choose Mark this stage ready when a stage feels done. It's only a marker for you; you can still change anything.

Saving

Notes save on their own a moment after you stop typing; the line under the title says Saved to your account. If the same project is open in two tabs and both change it, the second tab asks you to load the latest version rather than overwrite the first.

Delete and restore

Choose Move to Trash on a project. Restore it from the Trash tab within 30 days; after that it's deleted for good. Its linked screenplay and storyboard aren't affected.

Quick answers

Do projects use credits?

No. Projects, notes and links are free. Only the AI tools and media you choose to run use credits.
